i SAID IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN , microsoft anounce new plans to release a games console to replace the 360 .

Not being funny mate but it was obvious that a new console comes out 6-7 years after the last console so nothing new.been about 6-7 years since xbox to 360 and also ps2 to ps3.Anyway good find as its abit of confirmation

Interesting knotty, but to beleive that sony and microsoft will drop console gaming in favour of pc gaming is a bit delussional. At the end of the day although pc,s are technically the superior platform for gaming the consumer has to invest a lot of money in a machine to meet thier true potential. Also when buying a game for pc you have to check the packaging to find out if a particular title is compatible with your machine. Yes Sony and especially Microsoft has lost a lot of money developing and delivering thier consoles but as most people know they make most of thier money back through software rather than hardware sales. I can not see either company after spending so much money developing machines and buying software companies and developing new titles abandoning them. Microsoft from the off stated that they expected short term pain which was born out, and as their user base grows which it has been steadily every year since launch losses will slowly but surely be re-couped. If it wasnt a possible they wouldnt have bothered launching the xbox and sony would not have bothered with the ps3.

interesting reading,BUT how comes that if m$ and sony loose so much money on producing thier consoles that the gaming industry makes more money than the film and music industries? Plus technology wise its always been that when a new cosole comes out it usually has the egde over pc's then pc's catch up, also i recently heard pc gaming is waining at the moment with pc gamers migraiting to the 360? it makes you wonder who or what to believe, but to keep your pc up to date every couple of years can be expensive thats why i like console gaming, i know you have to buy a new console but at least its cheaper than buying a new pc , or keep updating your old one. As for a new xbox, the 360 did launch dec 2005 so if a new 1 come out in 2010 that would be about right. And old bill gates did say on 360 launch that downloads would be the future and not a new dvd format, thats why as i read recently that m$ only backed the hd-dvd format, so it would prolong the the format war and not to necessarily go againts blu-ray.
